The already competitive utility ATV market in Australia has added another player, Taiwanese brand ACCESS Motor, with two models forming part of the company's initial shipment — the AMX650 and AMX650UL. And according to the company's website, an AMX850 will also be available sometime in 2015.
Both 650s are identical apart from the UL being 180mm longer — big enough to accommodate a passenger — and also slightly more powerful. It's also 19kg heavier. The base model produces a claimed 45hp (33kw) and 47.4Nm, while figures for the UL are 48hp (35kW) and 53.3Nm.
The engine in the AMX series is a fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, 608cc single-cylinder with electric start, and other features of the two models are now ubiquitous across the ATV frontier: CVT transmission with low, high and reverse gears, selectable 2WD/4WD, and dual A-arm suspension with preload adjustment.
Load capacity (including rider) is 300kg, and the towing capacity is 700kg. The 650s track on 12-inch Maxxis tyres, and the fuel capacity is 21 litres. Weight is 336kg for the AMX650, and 355kg for the AMX650UL.
Accessories include 12-volt power sockets, mirrors, handguards, lights, under body protection, a 3000-pound winch, handlebar storage, front and rear cargo racks and a pillion rest (for the UL only).
Price is $9490 for the AMX650 and $9990 for the AMX650UL, with opposition including the Suzuki KingQuad 500 ($11,790), Honda TRX500FM1 ($11,198), Polaris Ute 570 H.D ($9995), Kymco MXV500 ($9995) and CF Moto X550 ($7990).
As well as utility ATVs, ACCESS Motor, headquartered in south-western Taiwan, also produces sports and youth models. However, the Aussie distributor, the NSW-based SAF Enterprises, is yet to announce any further importation plans outside the three AMX models.
There are currently eight ACCESS Motor dealers across the east coast. Click here to locate your nearest dealer.
