Honda looks set to push the limits of the established scooter paradigm with the creation of its latest twist-'n-go model, the City Adventure.
Unveiled as a concept model at Milan's 2015 EICMA Show, the scoot is essentially the love child of Honda's NC750X adventure bike and its Integra scooter, sharing the pair's 745cc parallel-twin engine and the Integra's frame and Dual Clutch Transmission.
In City Adventure form then add wire-spoked rims, additional suspension travel and more aggressive, dual-purpose-oriented rubber.
We can't yet provide any more detailed information about the model other than to say it's been teased in a short YouTube clip by Honda, which promises there will be more to say come August 30.
The appearance of the clip does, however, underline Honda's intentions with the City Adventure – it would be unusual to go to that trouble if Big Red wasn't intent on taking the machine through to production.
The fragmentation of the motorcycle and scooter worlds has, over the last couple of decades, given rise to all manner of superb machines. While once riders made do with a 'one size fits all' manufacturing mentality, yesteryear's Universal Japanese Motorcycle has since spawned myriad sub-categories: sportstourers, adventure bikes, cruisers, all the various off-road classes and more.
The scooter market has also had its innovations, most notably (in recent years) the birth of the maxi scooter with Yamaha's TMAX. That model spawned an entirely new genre, but will the same hold true for the world's first adventure scooter?
We're tipping it's likely to be billed as a 'soft-roader' more than anything – a scooter's inherent geometry, its feet-forward ride position, its smaller wheels and its limited suspension travel and ground clearance make it an unusual candidate for off-road hi-jinx, to say the least.
Of course, even if it does hit the production line there's no guarantee it will head Down Under, but we'll certainly be watching with interest as more information on the Honda City Adventure comes to light.
In the meantime, check out Honda's teaser to see a glimpse of the curious creation in action…
