This one’s as rare as vaudeville in parliament question time – a 1950s motorcycle still in its crate.
The bike in question, as reported in Canadian newspaper The Province, is a 1957 model Triumph TRW military-issue 500cc twin which came out of Canadian military storage around 40 years ago and was recently sold at an auction in California for $34,500.
What will the owner do with it? Assemble or leave in the crate with 20 factory test kilometres on it? I’m tipping the latter.
Before WW II finished, Triumph began developing the 500cc side-valve 500cc twin, with the engine finding a running mate in the form of the light weight Trophy model developed for the International Six-Day Trial.
Production formally commenced in 1950 and continued until 1964, with Triumph producing nearly 16,000 units. The bike was used by a number of countries around the world.
