25th anniversary Yamaha XT250

Festooned with a 3D design dominated by - as you'd expect -- branches and leaves…

We're resigned to the fact - May 21 is XT250 day at the Bikesales Network. No sooner had we finished uploading a quick spin on Yamaha's long-serving small-bore all-rounder than a media release lobbed into our inbox spruiking a special 25th anniversary model coming out of Japan.

We're not sure how that all works, as by our estimations the first XT250 was released in 1980. But we'll push on nonetheless.

The celebratory model is based on the latest XT250 (which is fuel injected in Japan, as opposed to the carby model in Oz) and features a 3D branch and leaves design which "adopts a graphic novel of fashion with an air of authentic".

The XT250, which is known as the Serow in Japan (named after a goat-antelope found in woodland on the main island of Honshu), also features a special 25th anniversary logo.

Price is 519,750 Yen ($6950), and Yamaha hopes to sell 2000 units. The bike goes on sale in Japan from July 1, 2010. We won't see the bike in Australia.
