After two years of COVID cancellations, the Shannons Insurance Broadford Bike Bonanza is back, and will descend upon the tight and undulating Broadford State Motorcycle Sports Complex this Easter, over April 16-17.
Open to all pre-1995 motorcycles of all descriptions – road race, road bike, sidecars, motocross, dirt track, trials, speedway and enduro – the event allows owners to take their ‘two-wheeled time capsules’ out on the track for a friendly gallop (“No racing, just riding” the event’s organisers stress!).
This year will feature an ‘American Iron’ theme, as was originally planned for 2020, and will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the launch of the iconic Kawasaki Z1 in 1972, with all models of Kawasakis welcome to be displayed.
Kawasaki Motors Australia has thrown its support behind the event, and organisers say there will be a “few surprises in store”.
A rider entry costs $110 for the road race track and $70 for the dirt-based classes, while spectators are in for $40 for one day or $60 for the weekend, with seniors/pension card holder concessions available.
Camping is just $10 per night per person, with kids under 16 free. Unpowered camping sites are plentiful but available only on a 'first in, best dressed' basis, with toilets and hot showers located at the road race circuit, motocross track and speedway track.
Due to COVID-19 guidelines, all rider entries must be registered in advance, with online bookings closing at 8:00pm on Monday, April 4. All participants and spectators must provide proof of both COVID-19 vaccinations upon entry.
