The new ‘Avus Black’ livery is inspired by the iconic black and yellow ‘Bumblebee’ R 100 GS, which debuted in 1988. The original R 80 G/S launched in 1980 with a red, purple, blue and white livery.
Headlining the ’40 Years of GS’ range is the hugely-popular R 1250 GS Adventure and, while the 1254cc boxer engine (complete with ShiftCam) remains mechanically unchanged, the bike does receive a new engine knock sensor.
The special edition BMW R 1250 GS Adventure also receives more electronic rider aids, adaptive LED headlights (option) and a heated seat (option).
The added equipment, which includes exclusive Option 719 parts, leaves the 40th anniversary R 1250 GS Adventure with a $36,851 (ride away) price tag – nearly $8500 more than the regular R 1250 GS Adventure.
Elsewhere, the entry-level G 310 GS has been given subtle updates including an anti-hopping clutch, LED headlight and indicators, new adjustable levers, and a ‘gently revised design’. Pricing for the special edition model is yet to be announced but the standard version checks in at $8462 ride away.
Other models to receive the 40th anniversary treatment include the F 750 GS ($19,530 ride away), F 850 GS ($23,713 ride away), F 850 GS Adventure ($25,607 ride away), R 1250 GS ($35,306 ride away), and the RninetT Urban G/S ($27,418 ride away).
BMW Motorrad Australia will launch these new special edition models as a special event in Melbourne, which will also involve classic BMW GS models from the past. bikesales is set to attend this event so stay tuned for more coverage.
