2020 Triumph Street Triple R looming

New styling and bi-directional quick-shifter for updated Euro 5 mid-spec middleweight Brit streetfighter

Triumph has announced details of its new 2020 Triumph Street Triple R, which serves as a mid-specification model in the British brand's middleweight streetfighter range, below the flagship 2020 Triumph Street Triple RS and above the LAMS-compliant Triumph Street Triple S.

The new Triumph Street Triple R receives the refreshed bodywork, twin LED headlights and muffler already adopted by the Street Triple RS, and will be available in two new colour schemes: Sapphire Black or Matt Silver Ice.

Both schemes are complemented by Diablo Red and Aluminium Silver decals, along with red rim pin-striping and a red rear subframe.

Cleaner, more responsive power

The 765cc in-line triple powerplant now complies with Euro 5 emissions regulations. Its maximum output is unchanged, at 118hp (86.8kW) at 12,000rpm and 77Nm at 9400rpm, but Triumph says the engine is more responsive thanks to a reduction in rotational inertia of seven per cent.

Triumph also says the bike's airbox and exhaust system have been refined to help meet the Euro 5 standard, the changes also delivering "a crisper, purer sound, with an even more distinctive tone".

The new Triumph Street Triple R's weight has increased by 2kg, to 168kg (dry), while its rake is even sharper at 23.5 degrees (previously 23.9 degrees), with wheelbase down to 1405mm (previously 1410mm).

Seat height is 825mm but a low-seat-height version (780mm) is also available, the reduction achieved through changes to the suspension and seat.

The six-speed gearbox is now enhanced with a bi-directional quick-shifter as standard, while the new 2020 Triumph Street Triple R rides on the same Showa suspension package as before, with an inverted 41mm Big Piston Fork up front mated with a Show piggyback monoshock at the rear. The suspension is fully adjustable for preload, rebound and compression at each end.

Braking is provided by a pair of Brembo M4.32 radial-mount, four-piston calipers up front with a single-piston Brembo caliper at the rear. The bike comes standard with ABS and traction control, along with three ride models: Sport, Road and Rain.

Keen pricing to come

Collectively the changes add up to a mild update for the Triumph Street Triple R. While Triumph Australia says the new model is "now even more accessible and affordable", it has not yet announced pricing details – for that we'll have to wait until we're a little closer to the model's arrival Down Under, which is slated for the second quarter of 2020.

Pricing for the recently released 2020 Triumph Street Triple RS was unchanged from that of its predecessor, despite its raft of updates and improvements.

The new Triumph Street Triple R will reach showrooms backed by a comprehensive array of over 60 genuine factory accessories, including new items like scrolling indicators, water-resistant luggage, a colour-matched belly pan and seat cowl, a fly screen, machined mirrors and reservoirs and an Arrow slip-on silencer, among many others.

Bikesales will bring you more details of the 2020 Triumph Street Triple R as they come to hand.
