New engines in updated frames mark the arrival of the 2020 Kawasaki KLX300R and KLX230R off-road machines.
The KLX300R benefits from a new 292cc liquid-cooled engine good for 29hp (21.4kW) and 26.3Nm, proving more power on the tracks and trails, along with the ease of an electric start.
Kawasaki describes the bike as a “purpose-built hard trail” machine intended to bridge the gap between play bikes and enduro racers.
The KLX230R is all about fun, as distinct from the dual-purpose nature of the regular KLX230. As a result, the new bike boasts more wheel travel (250mm) and ground clearance (300mm and a light 115kg weight.
The 233cc engine produces 19hp (14.5kW) and 20.6Nm with a focus on low and mid-range torque. Kawasaki opted for an air-cooled approach to reduce size and mass and improve reliability. Like it’s bigger sibling, the KLX230R fires up at the press of a button.
Meanwhile, riders who want to let it all hang out will head for the new KX250 motocross machine.
A new engine has liberated another 3.3hp (2.4kW) above the 2019 model, along with an emphasis on improved performance towards the top of the rev limit.
The KYB suspension has been updated with 48mm inverted forks and a new rear shock.
Launch control is standard and the bike is loaded with three engine maps: standard, hard and soft.
Like the KLX models, the KX250 is due in local dealerships soon.
