The official Australian media launch for Harley-Davidson's Low Rider S will be held this week, with Bikesales.com.au on the ground in Sydney to put the new model through its paces along the city's Northern Beaches and hinterland.
The Low Rider S serves as the spearhead of Harley-Davidson's model-year 2020 line-up, the refreshed range also featuring the Harley-Davidson CVO Tri-Glide Trike – Harley's first trike to bear the Custom Vehicle Operations badge – and the Harley-Davidson Reflex Defensive Rider Systems suit of safety technologies, deployed across CVO, Trike and selected Touring models.
Like the base-model Low Rider, the Low Rider S slots into Harley's Softail family, but continues a genetic line that extends back the Harley-Davidson FXR models of the 1980s, and the rich SoCal heritage of tall-bike customs on which those early 'factory customs' were based.
That style and an emphasis on sporty performance later morphed into Harley-Davidson's Dyna family, which first arrived in 1991 with the FXDB Sturgis, the line continuing until 2017 when the latest-generation MY2018 Softail family expanded significantly to include previous Dyna models like the Low Rider.

Priced at $27,995 plus on-roads, the 2020 Harley-Davidson Low Rider S arrives with a $3500 premium over the base Low Rider but sports numerous differences and performance upgrades.
Most notably, the Low Rider S is powered by Harley-Davidson's Milwaukee-Eight 114 – an 1868cc V-twin good for a claimed 161Nm – while the Low Rider is powered by the Milwaukee-Eight 107.
Continuing with its performance edge, the Low Rider S also has a sharper 28-degree rake (30 degrees on the Low Rider) and comes with an inverted front fork, a solo seat, and a twin-disc front brake set-up.
Available in Vivid Black or Barracuda Silver paint schemes on bronze 'Radiate' alloy rims – with a 19-inch rim up front and a 16-inch rim down the back – the Low Rider S is capped off with a diminutive bikini sports fairing.
