Suzuki’s now released full technical details on its 2019 RM-Z250 motocross bike, with the list of updates including a hike in power by five per cent from the quarter-litre engine thanks to a new cylinder head.
According to Suzuki, the 2019 RM-Z250 shares the same “product concept and design philosophy from the all-new for 2018 RM-Z450”.
The RM-Z250 now features two injectors: the primary one to deliver low-rpm fuelling and a secondary one at higher rpm provides the extra fuel needed.
There’s also a new exhaust.
The fourth-generation engine control module (ECM) used in the motocrosser automatically adjusts ignition timing and fuel injection based on throttle position, engine speed and gear position.
Holeshot assist has been refined with new mapping, with riders choosing between three settings which can be quickly selected via a handlebar-mounted switch.
The frame and swingarm are all new, with the aluminium frame spars shedding 370 grams while increasing torsional rigidity by 10 per cent.
The new KYB coil spring fork replaces the previous model's PSF2 air fork, while the rear suspension linkage ratio has been changed to “firm up short-stroke movement while optimising longer suspension action for better traction”.
New and lighter Dirtstar wheels reduce unsprung weight by 100 grams all up, and the 2019 RM-Z250 will be fitted with Dunlop’s latest Geomax MX33 tyre.
The front brake disc diameter has been increased from 250mm to 270mm.
The styling and bodywork is certainly RM-Z450-esque, while the 2019 RM-Z250 has an updated Renthal Fatbar aluminium handlebar.
Expected Australian arrival is during the first quarter of 2019.
