2019 Suzuki GSX-S1000 on sale

The naked version of the Gixxer goes on sale next month

Suzuki is doing its bit to try and bolster bike sales by launching the 2019 GSX-S1000 in March for $15,490 rideaway.

Suzuki describes the GSX-S as being "born on the racetrack and raised on the street" to leverage its relationship with the legendary litre-class GSX-R sportsbike.

Power comes from the same long-stroke engine that propelled the K5 GSX-R when it launched in 2005, though the unit has been reworked to improve bottom and mid-range response as befits a street bike.

The 110kW/108Nm machine uses a torque-limiting clutch to smooth downshifts and 310mm Brembo monobloc brakes.

KYB takes care of the suspension duties with a 43mm inverted front fork and a monoshock rear. Adjustment extends to compression, spring pre-load and rebound damping up front, with rebound and pre-load tweaking on the back.

The LCD display shows traction control settings along with the regular displays for fuel use, riding range and gear position and can be toggled through six different rev displays.

This year’s paint schemes include Metallic Triton Blue (pictured) and Metallic Matte Black.
