2019 Harley-Davidson FXDR Softail

Joins the Softail family, and will go on sale in Australia for $35,495

Harley-Davidson’s launched its 2019 line-up and, after fervent new-model activity over the last couple of years there’s one newbie to reveal at this stage – the FXDR, which becomes the 10th member of the Softail family.

However, we do know that Harley-Davidson won’t be treading water for too long…

Now taking its place as the most expensive Softail ($35,495) ahead of the Breakout, the FXDR’s performance intentions are clear with the 114 Milwaukee-Eight engine (160Nm), upside-down forks and a new air intake.

Like the Breakout, though, the steering angle is a rangy 34 degrees, and its 18-inch rear tyre is a massive 240mm wide. The FXDR has Ace cast-aluminium wheels, and the wet weight is 303kg.

Other features include LED lighting, a keyless ignition, a digital riser gauge and the solo seat – which is 720mm high.

The FXDR 114’s aluminium swingarm achieves a 4.62kg weight reduction (6.25kg vs. 10.88kg, or 43 per cent less) over the steel swingarm on the rest of the Softail range

“The look of the FXDR 114 expresses its performance potential and highlights the technical features that set it apart from the rest of the Softail line-up," said Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson Vice President of Styling and Design. "The drag-bike influence is strong with the raked and inverted front end, massive intake and exhaust, proportional contrast between the wheels and the clipped tail section.

But we made sure that purely technical elements like the aluminium swingarm, fully integrated digital instrumentation within the rider controls, and exposed external suspension adjuster are highlighted as well and help define this bike’s mission, which is pure performance – not just straight-line
performance.”
