2019 EICMA: KTM 890 Duke R and Husky Norden 901 concept

Higher-spec nakedbike from KTM, while Husky concept hints at future Adventure model

KTM’s 890 Duke broke cover on the Austrian firm’s stand at this year’s EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, revealing a machine that boasts more power, more torque and improved electronics and componentry over the highly acclaimed 790 Duke.

The Euro 5-compliant 890cc parallel-twin engine with four valves per cylinder makes 119hp at 9250rpm compared to the 790’s 103hp at 9000, while the 99Nm of torque is chiming in 250rpm earlier than the 790, at 7750rpm.

Weighing 3kg less than the 790, the 890 Duke R also benefits from fully-adjustable WP APEX suspension and Brembo’s top-shelf Stylema calipers, while an IMU-equipped braking controller means both the ABS and traction control systems are now lean-angle sensitive.

There’s a slightly extended wheelbase, 1475mm to 1482mm, the perch is now 10mm higher up to 835mm and the whole shebang tips the scales at 166kg dry.

On the other side of the stand, KTM-owned Husqvarna used the sow to reveal the Norden 901 concept, which is an adventure touring0style machine built around the same engine platform as the 890 Duke R.

Using a 21-inch front and an 18-inch rear wheel, history tells us it may very well be the first glimpse of a KTM 890 Adventure, which is no doubt already well under development.
