Ducati has moved the nakedbike goalposts with the official unveiling of the 2020 Streetfighter V4.
Once normal to use a detuned version of a brand’s superbike engine in a stripped back chassis offering upright ergonomics, the Streetfighter’s performance figures are within a handful of horsepower and newton-metres of what the donor engine can manage. In fact, because of the nakedbike’s lower gearing, the firm claims there’s actually a higher percentage of the peak torque available lower in the rev range where it’s used most.

Wrapped in a 199kg package, the 1103cc V4 engine boasts 205hp and a 123Nm of torque, numbers which not that long ago were coveted in terms of Superbike performance. The chassis, five-inch TFT dash and full suite of electronics are straight from the Panigale, while the ergonomics are more relaxed with a wider, higher single-piece handlebar and lower-set footpegs.

There are two versions on offer: a standard offering as well as an up-spec V4 S model which, thanks to the forged alloy Marchesini wheels, tips the scales 2kg lighter than the base machine, despite the addition of Öhlins electronic suspension at each end replacing the Showa/Sachs set-up on the standard bike.
MotoGP-inspired winglets are present on the nakedbike which, according to Ducati, provide almost 40kg of downforce at 270km/h.
