2018 Honda CRF250R imminent

Just in time for Christmas and bursting with upgrades…

Honda Australia has announced its 2018 CRF250R is just around the corner, with the updated model boasting a host of improvements.

Due to land in Australian showrooms in December, the quarter-litre motocrosser now has more power, better stability, enhanced traction, a dual exhaust and a titanium intake system, says Honda.

Honda says the new double-overhead-cam single-cylinder engine has increased valve lift, a larger valve diameter and a higher rev ceiling, resulting in an improvement of the bike's power-to-weight ratio of five per cent.

Peak power is now delivered 2000rpm higher than previously.

Power is also enhanced by a new straight intake system and the dual exhaust, while an advanced scavenge pump is said to reduce engine friction and pumping losses.

Meanwhile, the chassis has been massaged to deliver enhanced starting performance, front-end stability and rear wheel traction, says Honda, while the shorter wheelbase places the rider's weight more over the rear wheel, improving rear wheel traction.

Weight has been shaved from the new titanium tank and the lower engine mount and lower rear shock mounts deliver a lower centre of gravity.

The fork has been updated to a 49mm Showa USD unit and smooth-surfaced bodywork more closely resembles its big brother, the CRF450R.

The kick-starter has made way for an electric leg, the starter powered by a lightweight lithium-ion battery that is said to be able to withstand temperatures as low as -10 degrees.

The bike has three engine modes – Standard, Smooth and Aggressive – allowing riders to tailor the bike's performance to their skill level and the prevailing conditions.
