A heavily updated Versys 1000 has headlined Kawasaki’s announcements at this year’s EICMA motorcycle expo, which included a new flagship supercharged H2 machine, a 400cc nakedbike as well as two versions of the reintroduced W800 retro bike.
The firm’s long-legged sports tourer retains its 17-inch wheels for the new model year, signalling its tarmac intentions, but new two-tiered range with boasts more aggressive styling and a boost in its electronic capabilities should see the 1000cc Versys appeal widen.
The 2019 Versys 1000 and the up-spec SE model are both powered by the same 1078cc engine as the predecessor, but lean-angle sensitive ABS and traction control is now standard on the pair, as is cruise control, electronic throttle valves, a TFT dash and an adjustable screen.
The up-spec SE model boasts the firm’s KECS semi-active suspension package, three switchable engine modes, as well as a multi-directional quickshifter and cornering lights. Also unique to the Verses 1000 SE is a higher-spec full-colour TFT dash and the Japanese firm’s innovative self-healing paint.
Unsurprisingly, Kawasaki has added a naked version of its recently released Ninja 400 to its line-up for 2019. Its powered by the same 399cc parallel-twin engine as its faired counterpart, mounted in the same tubular steel frame. With it’s wide one-piece handlebar and its stripped-backed styling, it’s the seventh naked Z model in the Kawasaki stable.
Lastly, but certainly not least, Kawasaki used the event to announce the addition of the H2 SX SE+ model for 2019. The small plus symbol represents electronically adjustable semi-active suspension, the addition of Brembo’s top-spec Stylema Monobloc calipers and a swish new full-colour TFT dash.
