Honda’s three 2018 Africa Twin variants will go on sale locally in late May 2018, and are priced as follows:
• Africa Twin manual with ABS (CRF1000L): $17,499 plus on-roads;
• Africa Twin 'Adventure Sports' manual with ABS (CRF1000AL2): $19,499 plus on-roads; and
• Africa Twin 'Adventure Sports' DCT with ABS (CRF1000DL2): $19,999 plus on-roads.
The updated base model and ‘Adventure Sports’ bikes were announced at the 2017 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, all three benefitting from the addition of a ride-by-throttle and the inclusion of four selectable engine modes, as well as tweaks to the engine, the intake and the exhaust which Honda says makes for improved response in the mid-range. Quoted peak power remains unchanged at 95hp, though.
The Adventure Sports model gets a 5.4-litre boost to its fuel tank capacity, a bigger skid plate, longer travel suspension, higher ground clearance, a taller seat and screen, higher handlebars, heated grips and a charging socket.
There’s a quickshifter included on the manual models, as well as tweaks to the rpm shift points within sport mode of the dual clutch transmission (DCT) version.
The CRF1000L will be available in Matte Ballistic Black Metallic, Pearl Glare White (Tricolor) and Grand Prix Red (Team HRC Rally colour)
The ‘Adventure Sports’ variants are available in one 30th anniversary Tricolore paint scheme to celebrate the XRV650’s launch in 1988.
