2017 Harley-Davidsons looming

The covers will soon come off next year's Harley-Davidson line-up, with a rumoured new engine tipped to grab the limelight…
The launch of the 2017 Harley-Davidson range is just around the corner, but so far the Milwaukee giant has successfully kept any rumours of impending changes to exactly that – rumours.
The new line-up will be unveiled to the word's media over September 1 to 3 in Washington State, USA, where the assembled press will get the chance to see and ride the new machines through the serpentine roads of Olympic National Park.
While Harley-Davidson is known more for its calculated evolution rather than revolution when it comes to range updates, from time to time it does of course throw up the odd surprise or major shift in terms of new models, new technology, or new engines.
To that end, the hot rumour going into this next generation of Harleys is the addition of a 107-cubic-inch V-twin, said to be called the Milwaukee Eight. Why Milwaukee 'Eight' in a 107-cube engine? Because it's said to have four valves per cylinder, that's why, while sticking to a traditional air-cooled, pushrod-actuated format.
Word on the grapevine is that the engine will feature in one 2017 cruiser and then the full 2018 Touring range, but we'll have to wait until early next month to find out – about the engine and about the rest of the 2017 Harley-Davidson line-up.

After fighting on through the dark days following the GFC, today Harley-Davidson is attracting increasing numbers of younger and female riders to its fold with its expanded Sportster range and its new entry-level Street 500.
Here in Australia the Street 500 was the second-best-selling road bike to the end of June 2016 (excluding Honda's NBC110 postie bike) while Harley-Davidson had a further two models inside the top 10. Altogether, Harley-Davidson was the fourth-biggest marque outright by volume in Australia over the first half of this year after the 'Big Four' Japanese brands.
