BMW Motorrad has begun to divulge details on its 2017 range, with its trio of mid-range adventure bikes — the F 700 GS, F 800 GS and F 800 GS Adventure — the first to hit the public domain.
And other than the adoption of Euro4 compliance for the 798cc parallel twin engines — the visual cue being the newly designed end piece of the stainless steel tailpipe — the other updates are minor:
• Electromotive throttle controller for improved response and controllability.
• Riding modes "Rain" and "Road" as standard. Riding modes "Enduro" and "Enduro Pro" (only F 800 GS / F 800 GS Adventure) as an ex-works option.
• Instrument panel with new dials, the so-called Malfunction Indicator Light and riding mode display.
• Side reflectors on fork slider tubes and fixed fork tubes to meet new statutory regulations.
BMW Motorrad is also offering an Akrapovic HP sports silencer as an original accessory.
The F 700 GS generates 75hp and 77Nm, and in F 800 guise it jumps up to 85hp/83Nm.
Meanwhile, stability control and electronic suspension adjustment are available as ex-works options, and in terms of suspension the 2017 models continue to use the tubular steel frame in which the engine is integrated as a load-bearing element. The rear frame in square steel tubing and the aluminium double- sided swinging arm likewise remain unchanged, as do the wheels and tyres.
Optional equipment includes comfort (heated grips etc) and dynamic (stability control, electronic suspension adjustment etc) packages, tyre pressure control, on-board computers, LED indicators and headlights, comfort seat, low seat, centrestand and lowered suspension for F 700 GS and F 800 GS.
Colours are as follows:
F 700 GS: Light White non-metallic, Racing Red non-metallic or Singapore Grey metallic matt
F 800 GS: Light White non-metallic paint finish, Blackstorm metallic or Ostra Grey metallic matt
F 800 GS Adventure: Racing Red Matt or Catalano Grey
BMW Motorrad Australia is yet to announce spec, colours, prices or availability for the three bikes.
