The EICMA motorcycle show in Milan has now closed its doors, so let’s take a look at what the world’s premier expo has delivered in 2017.
As usual, the new releases were spread far and wide across the motorcycling spectrum, from sportsbikes to cruisers, scooters, sportstourers, adventure bikes, nakeds, commuters and dirtbikes – some of them concepts.
And the who’s who of the motorcycling fraternity was there, from CEOs to celebrities and racing royalty like four-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez.
Aussie MotoGP legend Casey Stoner made the trek to Milan, and he was on hand when Ducati launched its all-new Panigale V4, which replaces the twin-cylinder Panigale as the company’s flagship sportsbike. The Panigale V4 was awarded the most beautiful EICMA bike by show-goers.
Ducati also unveiled a swathe of other new models at its gala ceremony, including the 959 Panigale Corse – now its premier V-twin sportsbike – and multiple iterations of the Multistrada 1260 and Scrambler 1100, all of which will all go on sale in Australia by mid-2018.
While Ducati was spruiking its new wares, Bikesales was in the UK where we witnessed the debut of a new air/oil cooled 650cc parallel twin from rapidly expanding Indian marque Royal Enfield.
We then made the short skip to Milan to catch the unveiling of the two new Royal Enfield models that will be powered by the fresh mill – the Interceptor 650 Twin and Café GT 650 Twin.
The flood gates then opened as new or updated models were unveiled thick and fast:

• Honda CB1000R and CB300R
• BMW C 400 X
• BMW F 750 GS and F 850 GS

And we’re yet to do a ‘sweep’ of the whole event, so keep an eye out for more 2017 EICMA news in coming weeks.
Meanwhile, we’re still awaiting official word on which of the new models will be air-freighted Down Under in time for the 2017 Sydney Motorcycle Show from November 24-26, but we do know the Vitpilen 701 and Svartpilen 401 will be there, as well as the Benelli Leoncino.
We’ll have full details on the other Sydney Motorcycle Show attendees early next week.
