2017 Australian Motocross of Nations team

Ferris, Gibbs and Lawrence will take on the best in the world

Australia's team to contest the 71st running of the iconic Motocross of Nations (MoN) in England on October 1 will comprise locally based pilots Dean Ferris and Kirk Gibbs, as well as world title campaigner Hunter Lawrence.

The Yamaha-backed Ferris, backing up from MoN duties in 2016, will ride in the MX1 class at Matterley Basin, while Gibbs (KTM) and Lawrence (Suzuki) will be taking aim at the Open and MX2 classes respectively. Gary Benn continues his role as the longstanding team manager.

Ferris has dominated the 2017 Aussie MX1 motocross title, with the penultimate round to be held in Toowoomba (Qld) on August 13.

Gibbs is currently second in the same MX1 title, while Lawrence has Suzuki factory backing in the world MX2 title where he has a best finish of second in Germany. He's ninth in the standings with four rounds remaining.

Australia was eighth in the 2016 MoN, won by France for the third year in succession. America has the most wins with 22.
