The Australian motorcycle industry came together in Melbourne from November 25-27 for the 2016 Moto Expo Melbourne – the first time the show had visited the Victoria capital in two years.
With a claimed 18,500 enthusiasts passing through the gates, the expo began on Friday morning with the traditional media walk. Triumph, MV Agusta, Moto Guzzi, Aprilia, Honda, Piaggio, BMW, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Ducati, Indian, Can-Am, Victory, Harley-Davidson, Royal Enfield and Benelli were all involved, unveiling hardware that had only recently been on display at Intermot and EICMA.
Moreover, brands such as Sherco, SWM, CFMoto, Ural and Kymco had 2017 models on display, while Sea-Doo, Yamaha and Kawasaki presented their personal watercraft.
A special guest at the expo was American UFC Fighter Miesha Tate at the Harley-Davidson display. Meanwhile, Showtime FMX, Lukey Luke, Dave McKenna and Epic Darren performed all weekend along with the ALL4FMX Bag Jump team launching everything from postie bikes, scooters, minibikes, quads and even Harley-Davidsons into the $50,000 air bag.
The Baylisstic Scramble flat track event was a popular feature in the Bikesales.com.au-sponsored main arena, with Brodie Waters defeating his siblings Josh and Nick in the final.
There were also supermotard demonstrations, while Australia's strongest men competed in multiple events including the Showtime FMX 16 Tonne Truck Pull and Double Bike Lift.
Promoter Troy Bayliss said: "It was a big weekend showcasing the latest bikes, products and services in Australia, accompanied by live motorcycle entertainment and action for all ages.
The highlights for me included seeing the children's faces riding bikes for the first time in the Yamaha Fun Bike area and the public's reaction to bikes being unveiled for the first time in the country.
"We would like to thank the exhibitors, sponsors and most importantly the visitors who attended the event."
Major door prizes included a trip for two to India to participate on a 15-day adventure motorcycle tour, won by grandfather and grandson Chris and Lachie Gertdz; and a brand new Royal Enfield 350 won by Russell Leggatt.
Next up on the major events calendar is the 2017 Sydney Motorcycle Show, which will be held at the brand new International Convention Centre (ICC) Darling Harbour from November 24-26.
