2017 Melbourne Toy Run details

The institution on the motorcycle social calendar turns 40 this year, and we also have details on all the other Aussie Toy Runs

Tabcorp Park in Melton continues as the hosting venue for the annual Salvation Army-supported Melbourne Toy Run, with the 2017 event to be held on Sunday, December 17.

This year's 40th anniversary Toy Run will feature muscle car and truck show displays, show & shine competitions, a large variety of trade stalls, freestyle motocross shows, food and entertainment and children's activities. Proceeds go towards the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.

Continuing this much-loved tradition, thousands of riders and motoring enthusiasts decked out in Christmas regalia will descend on Tabcorp Park from 10:00am, bringing with them much needed toys and non-perishable food donations for the annual Salvation Army Christmas family appeal.

Tabcorp Park will then play host to a large outdoor family friendly community carnival featuring trader stalls (for that perfect last minute gift), food stalls, bike and hot rod displays, motocross stunt shows, live music and kid-friendly activities.

Of course, a massive part of the Toy Run is about motorcyclists riding to the event, and for all the feeder starting points on the Melbourne Toy Run click here.

At the State Netball Hockey Centre adjacent to the historic Melbourne Zoo, the parade will be waved off at 9:30am by The Hon Luke Donnellan MP, Minister for Roads and Road Safety, and led by Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer as riders make their way to Tabcorp Park under police escort.

“The traditional annual Charity Toy Run is an institution in Melbourne that has been helping the less fortunate for many years,” said Chair of the Victorian Motorcycle Council (VMC), Rob Salvatore. “We wholeheartedly thank the riders, car enthusiasts, volunteers, supporting organisations and organisers who keep the event growing and supporting even more families in need.”

In 1978, the Motorcycle Riders' Association began its Toy Run with a small band of riders that met in the Melbourne inner suburb of Albert Park to pass on toys to the Salvation Army.
