Australian Toby Price is eighth overall in the 2016 Dakar Rally in South America; improving one spot in the 629km (429km timed) stage four.
Price was fifth in stage four, five minutes and 50 seconds (5:50) behind Portugese rider Paolo Goncalves (Honda). Another rider from the Iberian Peninsula, Ruben Faria (Husqvarna), was second from Argentinean Kevin Benavides (Honda, 4:26) and Joan Barreda (Honda, 3:11) — who actually won the stage but was then slapped with a five-minute penalty for speeding. Barreda is also another big gun from Portugal.
Overall, Goncalves leads by 4:14 from Benavides, Barreda (5:26), Stefan Svitko (KTM, 8:08), Faria (8:15), Matthias Walkner (KTM, 9:13), Pablo Quintanilla (Husqvarna, 10:35) and Price (10:43).
When the rally enters Bolivia on Thursday competitors will climb to 4600m and the navigation will get more difficult as they make their way from Jujuy to Uyuni. The total distance will be 642km, including a 327km timed special.
