“She wants to go faster”. Those words belong to the inimitable Valentino Rossi waxing lyrical about the all-new YZF-R1 on the latest teaser video released by Yamaha.
Four-time AMA superbike champion Josh Hayes also chimes in with: “A lot of fun on a race track.”
The appraisals from two of the fastest Yamaha practitioners in the globe can only mean one thing: the new version of the one-litre sportsbike could be “the beginning of a new era” as recently announced by Yamaha Motor Australia. And what is the goal? Does Yamaha want to go racing again with a higher powered machine, particularly with the world superbike regulations taking on a more production focus from 2015? Or will that still happen, with Yamaha also releasing a higher capacity version al-la Kawasaki with its Ninja 636 or Ducati with the upcoming 1299 Panigale?
The videos below show the new R1’s all-digital screen, which is cramming a lot of information into a small area. We get most of it like the different power modes and traction control, but one of the major talking points is whether it will have electronically adjustable suspension? And will the gearbox bear the hallmarks of the company’s MotoGP technology?
In the video, the R1 sits at 240km/h in fourth gear before being shifted up to fifth, with still about 3000rpm left on the tacho. Will it be fast? You betcha…
The bike will be unveiled on November 3 in Milan, which equates to 7:00am AEDT in Australia on November 4. Click here to keep track of time on the global website. Two hours after the unveil, at 9:00am AEDT, Rossi will then be available for a live chat.
