The 2015 Team Speedway Under 21 World Championship Final will be staged at Mildura’s Olympic Park Speedway on Saturday, October 31, featuring two of the newly graduated stars of the 2016 Speedway Grand Prix (SGP) season.
Bartoz Zmarslik and Piotr Pawlicki will join their Polish teammates in Mildura, just one week after the historic running of the final SGP of the year at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.
Poland will contest the 2015 Team Speedway Under 21 World Championship against teams from Denmark, Germany and host nation, Australia. Four riders will make up each team, with each rider scheduled to take five rides in the meeting over the 20-heat program. The format allows for a tactical substitution may be made, and also a “Joker” may be played, when a team is more than a certain number of points behind the leaders. The “Joker” scores double points, which can keep the meeting very interesting.
The Australian riders will be Brady Kurtz, Max Fricke, Nick Morris and Jack Holder, mentored by team manager and former Australian speedway star Mark Lemon.
"There’s a real buzz about the event — it’s the first time this event has come out of Europe ever and the legacy that we leave here at the Mildura Motorcycle Club is a huge achievement," Lemon said. "It’s a dream isn’t it? It’s crazy to think that this wasn’t even thought of two years ago and now we’re here."
This Saturday's field will also include:
• 2012 Danish Speedway World Cup Winner, Mikkel Bech
• 2014 World Longtrack Champion, Germany’s Erik Riss
Poland is the defending under 21 world team champion at the technical Mildura track. Team Poland has an excellent record in the Under 21 Teams events, but their trip to Mildura, Australia may be their most daunting.
