2015 Lions TT: September 18-20

The motorcycling festival in Kyogle is back again, with plenty to see and do over the three days

The second Lions TT Motorcycle Festival, which attempts to blend the best of the Sturgis Rally, Isle of Man TT and the Goodwood Festival of Speed into a three-day carnival in Kyogle (NSW), will be held from September 18-20.

And as part of the festival, the glorious Lions Road, which spans parts of both NSW and Qld, will again be turned into a closed, non-competition road circuit for motorcyclists.

To kick start the 2015 Lions TT, two lead-up events will be held at Morgan Park on Sunday, June 28 and Kyogle Bowls Club on Saturday, August 1. Cost for Morgan Park is $285, and includes all food on the day. There will be group sessions of 15-20 minutes duration, and the day will conclude at 4:30pm. Keep an eye on www.lionstt.com for more information.

Now back to the event itself… As well as the Lions Road component of the Lions TT, there will be adventure rides, dirt biking options, and a café racer and open bike sprint. There will also be guided tours, or you can just explore the area on your own.

Kyogle will again be the major hub for the event, and will feature live entertainment, a show & shine, street market and a base for demo rides.

Kyogle is the main reason the Lions Road exists, as most of the funding and labour to complete the sinuous piece of bitumen was backed by the local Lions Club — hence the naming convention. The road was completed in 1971.

"The concept is to give the motorcycle enthusiast the opportunity to ride within the signed limits and to not have to worry about any oncoming traffic," said the director of the Lions TT, Mark Luxford. "This has many enthusiasts very excited. It is all about making a dream happen of bringing the Isle of Man and the Sturgis formats to Australia.

“The Lions TT, motorcycle festival and motorcycle sprint event is aiming to embed a history and tradition targeting a wide motorcycle demographic."

The Lions TT Group is a non-for profit organisation, and all profits earned will be going back into the upkeep of the Lions Road.

Tickets for the 2015 even will go on sale in June.
