Kawasaki’s entry-level Vulcan S, aimed at competitors like the Honda VT750S, Yamaha XVS650 and Suzuki Boulevard M50,is now on sale for $9999 plus on-road costs.
The Vulcans have been synonymous with big V-twins, but this time Kawasaki has introduced a parallel twin into the Vulcan mix, using the retuned, liquid-cooled six-speed engine that’s currently found in the Versys 650 and Ninja 650.
That alone should guarantee a fairly swift ride, and the commuter-friendly Vulcan S also has an underslung muffler, preload-adjustable offset shock absorber and there’s a typical cruiser seating position with the forward controls. The footpegs are also adjustable.
The five-spoke cast wheels are connected to a 300mm ABS-equipped front disc and twin-piston caliper, and at the back it’s a 250mm/single-piston setup.
The wheels are 18 (front) and 17-inch, which contribute to the Vulcan’s “natural, light handling.” Weight is 225kg, 52kg lighter than the current Vulcan 900 Custom.
Kawasaki currently has six different Vulcans in its local line-up.
