Australia is only the cusp of seeing the fully faired CBR300R for the first time this month, but it will now be followed up quickly by a naked derivative – the CB300F -- in August, 2014.
The CB300F gets a majority of the CBR300R features, including the liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine (30hp, 27Nm), but it’s also 4kg lighter thanks to the fewer bolt-on bits such as the fairing. The kerb weight is 157.6kg.
There are also new handlebars, and the footpegs are positioned further forward to produce a more upright riding posture – ideal for the city.
The engine has a displacement of 286cc, and there’s a 38mm throttle body. The six-speed transmission is mated to a chain final drive, and suspension duties are the domain of an adjustable shock and 37mm fork. The seat height remains unchanged at 780mm.
Price is yet to be announced for the CB300F when it goes on sale next month. But we do know it will be chasing the tail of another sub 500cc naked, KTM’s 390 Duke, which has sold 382 units in the first half of 2014 – second only in the sales race to Yamaha’s MT-09 triple. Then follows another Honda – the twin-cylinder CB500F.
Price should be lower than the CBR300R, which will go on sale for $5699 (non-ABS) and $5999 (ABS).
