2015 ASBK calendar

Over five rounds as the rebuilding begins, with two at Phillip Island and a new addition to the calendar: Morgan Park in Queensland

The five-round calendar for the 2015 Australasian Superbike Championship has been released, with Phillip Island to bookend proceedings with the opening and closing battles.

The first round will be held from February 20-22 as an undercard to world superbikes, and then head to Morgan Park Raceway near Warwick (Qld) on April 10-12 – a new frontier for the championship

Then it’s onto Barbagallo Raceway in WA (May 29-31) for the first visit  out west since 2006, followed by Symmons Plains (Tas) from September 11-13 and the finale back at Phillip Island (October 2-4).

Other than round one, which will be promoted by the Phillip Island circuit, the other events will be organised by state-based clubs working in conjunction with Motorcycling Australia. Those clubs are as follows:

  • Motorcycle Sportsmen of Qld (www.motorcyclesportsmen.com.au)
  • Motorcycle Racing Club of WA (www.mcrcwa.com.au)
  • Tasmanian Motorcycle Club (www.tasmanianmotorcycleclub.com.au)
  • Hartwell Motorcycle Club (www.hartwellmcc.org)

“We’re excited to release the 2015 ASBK calendar this week, as it’s another important step in announcing our plans to the competitors as earlier as possible,” said Motorcycling Australia CEO Dale Gilson. “We are focused on a number of key components of a refocused Australian Superbike Championship which include stability, consistency, safety and fairness.

“2015 will be a rebuilding year for the Australian Superbike Championship. It is important to create a truly national championship that involves riders from club to pro level. We want to ensure that our competitors enjoy racing at a MA national level, in a championship we can all be proud of.”

More details on the 2015 title will be released over coming weeks, including classes, technical regulations, prizemoney, transport assistance, media partnerships and supplementary regulations.

All classes will be expected to compete at rounds 2-5, with the opener – based on past experience – likely to be just an outing for superbike and supersport riders.
