Yamaha’s Bolt cruiser has been unveiled, combining an upright riding position with a simple and compact design.
Powered by the fuel-injected, four-valve, V-Star 950 engine, the Bolt is all about a ‘less is more’ philosophy with agility and user-friendliness the major parts of the plot. It’s the first bike that falls under Yamaha’s new medium term plan to broaden product lines in developed markets – which includes Australia.
Still, the Bolt isn’t destined to make it Down Under, with North America the only major market in Yamaha’s sights at the moment, where it will go on sale at the end of April, 2013. The cruiser segment dominates the 500,000-unit North American market, accounting for about 50 per cent of sales.
The engine in the Bolt has a completely redesigned intake/exhaust system, revised fuel injection settings, and a newly designed slim and compact chassis. There’s a base model as well as an ‘R’ spec, which comes with piggyback shocks, special tank graphics and a “buckskin-styled seat cover material”.
