The 2014 Suzuki RM-Z450 is now available nationally for $11,790. Basically unchanged save for an updated ECM ignition program and two-tone radiator shrouds, it still has plenty of pedigree, with Matt Moss wrapping up the 2013 Australian Motocross Championship on September 1 with the machine.
And to celebrate Moss’ victory, Suzuki Australia has announced that it will include a ‘champion’s package’ for free with every RM-Z450 purchase until December 31, 2013, which includes a 3x3 metre Suzuki pit tent, a set of Pirelli Scorpion MX Extra X tyres, and a Motul care package. It’s valued at $800.
The RM-Z450, which was first introduced in 2005, has a 449cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled four-valve, fuel-injected engine. The piston pin boasts Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) surface treatment, for less friction and increased durability. The battery-free fuel injection system has a 12-hole fuel injector.
The 2014 RM-Z450 comes with the latest version of Separate Function Fork (SFF-type2) from Showa, separating the spring and damping tasks. The right leg contains the spring, while the left leg incorporates the cartridge assembly to manage damping. It’s claimed to result in reduced friction, increased absorption performance and weight saving.
For quick adjustments to fuel settings, two couplers are included. One is for rich and another for lean compared to the stock setting. The customer can easily adapt the fuel setting to best suit the riding conditions by connecting either coupler.
The maintenance cap for fuel pump and a fuel hose plug are provided for ease of maintenance and the muffler body uses conventional bolts, instead of rivets to simplify replacing the glass wool packing.
