2014 MV Agusta Dragster

A teaser video has been released which shows it's based on the Brutale platform – but a Italian motorcycle magazine believes it may also have forced induction

MV Agusta’s new 800cc Dragster could have something extra up its performance sleeve – forced induction, according to Italian motorcycle magazine Motociclismo.

Although impossible to tell in the teaser video below – MV’s now established pattern of beginning guerrilla marketing campaigns for new models – the idea of turbocharging or supercharging in two-wheelers has gained some fresh legs in recent times, with Suzuki unveiling a concept – the Recursion -- at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show.

But some publications –  while applauding what would be a cutting edge exercise for MV Agusta instead of following industry trends –  are suggesting that Motociclismo is a bit off the mark, with www.asphaltandrubber.com citing a filing with the California Air Resources Board which lists the full name of the bike as the MV Agusta Brutale 800 Dragster – and rated with the same emissions as the Brutale 675 and Brutale 800.

The rumour mill shouldn’t have to last for too much longer though, with official details of the Dragster -- turbocharging would at least be a good match for the name – set to be announced soon.

Just how much power would a turbocharged 800cc triple produce? As a starting point, the Recursion’s 588cc parallel twin is said to produce 100hp at 8000rpm and a delicious 100Nm at just 4500rpm. As a comparison, 600cc supersport machines produce around 70Nm.
