Meet the brash, new MV Agusta Brutale 800 Dragster, which the company says “re-evokes the epic DNA of the ‘dragster’ race bikes, specifically built to release their explosive power in the few seconds that separate clutch release from the chequered flag”.
The naked Dragster cuts a more athletic figure than the standard Brutale – and the heavy-set Ducati Streetfighter 800 for that matter... -- with the biggest departure point the chopped-back tail section. The seat on the Dragster is far more compact too, leaving the rider with very little room to move: it’s all about getting straight down to business – or “for adrenaline addicts only” according to MV.
The engine continues the MV Agusta theme, with the Dragster powered by the company’s 798cc in-line triple, making a claimed 125hp (92kW) at 11,600rpm (limiter at 13,000rpm), and 81Nm at 8600rpm.
The new MVICS (Motor&Vehicle Integrated Control) system features a full ride-by-wire throttle, with four different maps: three standard (Sport, Normal and Rain) from the factory, and the forth can be defined by the rider. There’s eight-vehicle traction control.
The frame configuration, which has characterised the three-cylinder platform since its inception, features an ALS tubular steel load-bearing structure, supplemented by aluminium alloy plates and a single-sided swingarm. The wheelbase is 1380mm, with 95mm of trail.
Pirelli DIABLO Rosso II tyres adorn the aluminium-alloy 17-inch wheels, and the suspension is a 43mm upside-down Marzocchi form and Sachs shock – all fully adjustable. There are Brembo brakes, complete with anti-locking.
Dry weight is 167kg.
No word yet from MV Agusta Australia about Australian availability.
