It’s official: the revival of the Indian Motorcycle brand will fall on the broad shoulders of the Indian Chief – a bike that was first introduced way back in 1922.
The bike will make its Australian debut at the exact same time as the covers come off the bike at the 73rd annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, which runs from August 5-11, 2013. Following the unveiling, the bike will then go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2013 at a starting price of $28,995 ride away. A national Indian Motorcycle dealer network will be announced closer to launch.
As previously revealed, the Indian Chief will be powered by the Thunder Stroke 111 engine.
“We are thrilled to make today’s important announcements, it is roughly 65 years since Indian Motorcycle was last officially sold in Australia and to physically launch the all-new Indian Chief simultaneously with the USA in Sturgis is truly special” said Country Manager for Motorcycles Peter Harvey.
“When Polaris Industries acquired this brand two years ago, our goal from the outset was to leverage our engineering, manufacturing and operational prowess as a market leader in powersports to design and build a truly exceptional motorcycle that represents the perfect balance of legendary heritage and brilliant, state-of-the-art engineering and technology,” continued Harvey.
“All of us at Indian Motorcycle Australia are ecstatic to launch the all-new Indian Chief in Australia at the same time as the USA and are highly optimistic about the future for the brand in here.”
