Two years after it was first launched, Honda introduced an updated Crosstourer adventure bike at the 2013 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan.
The biggest update to the 1237cc V-four is the adoption of ‘Honda Selectable Torque Control’. The system constantly monitors front and rear wheel speed, and when it senses a certain difference in speed between front and rear wheels, engine torque is momentarily reduced by a combination of ignition cut and modulation of the throttle butterflies through the throttle-by-wire system.
As the difference in speed between front and rear wheels reduces, the system transitions into modulating only the throttle butterflies. The system features three modes of operation for the rider to choose depending on road conditions. It can also be switched off.
Honda’s six-speed DCT gearbox has also received software refinements, while the seat has been modified to improve rider comfort and facilitate easier ground reach. A ‘wave’ design ignition key is now standard. Accessories -- a key aspect of adventure bike ownership -- have also been revised with new top box, heated grips and a low seat option. Self-cancelling indicators are also fitted.
Standard liveries are Matt Pearl Glare White, Pearl Cosmic Black or Candy Prominence Red, and the special edition colour is Matt Titanium Blade Metallic.
The Crosstourer still features combined anti-lock braking and traction control, and the PGM-FI fuel injection employs 44mm throttle bores and fly-by-wire technology. Peak power of 127hp (95kW) arrives at 7750rpm, with peak torque of 126Nm at 6500rpm.
The diamond aluminium twin-spar frame is a hollow unit. Rake is set at 28 degrees with trail of 107mm and a 1595mm wheelbase. Kerb weight is 275kg, and 285kg for DCT version.
No word yet on local availability and price for the updated model.
