Harley-Davidson has given its 2014 range of Touring bikes more than just a spruce-up – the company’s gone ‘mad’ with over 100 updates to the range, courtesy of a four-year product development program called ‘Rushmore’.
It’s a massive deal for the American company, and the Bikesales Network is finding out first-hand what all the fuss is about on the international press launch in Colorado.
And the opening day’s ride through the famed Rockies – culminating in an overnight stop at Beaver Creek, over 10,000 feet elevation -- has painted a compelling picture, with the major highlights including the redesigned panniers; linked brakes; the new media ‘departments’; stiffer forks; updated aerodynamics, including a slipstream vent; and far more user-friendly hand controls.
All the bikes – the Road King Classic, Street Glide, Electra Glide Ultra Classic and Electra Glide Ultra Limited -- now feature the marque’s High Output Twin Cam 103 power train, with the Ultras also twin-cooled – using a neatly disguised system that’s just about impossible to pick other than a smidgeon of plumbing between the cylinders to circulate the water. The ultras also have ultra powerful LED head lamps.
Standby for a full launch review, as well as reports from Harley-Davidson’s 110-year anniversary party in Milwaukee, which will be held this weekend.
