The 2014 BMW GS Safari-Enduro will be one to remember, encompassing eight days and 3500km as it sets out from Darwin on July 13 and finishes at Port Douglas on July 21.
This epic event will give intrepid adventure riders the opportunity to truly experience the remoteness of the outback, with a tropical twist. It will pass through iconic locations such as Mataranka Springs, Katherine Gorge and Karumba in the Gulf Country, as well as the Daintree en route to the finish line.
Building on the success of the inaugural GS Safari-Enduro in 2013, the 2014 event will feature a full GS Safari support crew and accommodation that will set this ride apart as a total outback experience. Due to the remoteness of the locations along the journey, there will be a full camp setup for three nights. As an added bonus, all riders will be given their very own BMW Safari-branded swag as a souvenir of this memorable ride.
Lead riders mark the course with arrows and a daily route sheet and GPS files are provided, so you will always know exactly where you are. A sweep support vehicle, an on-bike technical support rider and an on-bike safari doctor are all on hand to assist riders if required. A support vehicle will transport riders' gear each day, ensuring participants are not burdened with fully loaded bikes.
Prior to leaving Darwin, there will be an optional off-road training course where participants can brush up on their skills.
There are still a handful of positions available. All you need is a BMW GS motorcycle -- if you don't own one, hire one! -- and you could be heading off on the ride of a lifetime. Registrations close on Monday, June 23, 2014. For more information visit www.bmwsafari.com.
