2014 Australasian superbike series
A slight name change for the popular series, but the technical rules will remain the same as the 2014 instalment visits four different states across six roundsAustralian Road & Track Rider Promotions (ARTRP) has announced the adoption of the ‘Australasian Superbike Championship (ASC)’ moniker to replace ‘Australasian FX-Superbike Championship’ in 2014.
Apart from dropping ‘FX’ from the name, nothing will change for the production-based national road racing class, which will visit New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland and Victoria as part of the six-round calendar in 2014.
According to ARTRP, the technical rules will still continue to focus on delivering a level playing field so that privateers can compete on an equal and affordable basis against factory teams, and a further shift in focus towards privateers will see both the Formula Oz and Supersport (FX600) classes become the sole domain of non-factory riders.
In 2014, a one-make class will also be introduced based on Kawasaki’s best-selling Ninja 300. It will be called the ‘FX 300 Ninja Cup’, and the rules will “allow sensible but affordable changes”.
Overseas competitors who enter the ASC will receive assistance from ARTRP to help them compete, ahead of what could be international round(s) – New Zealand is the logical destination – of the championship form as early as 2015.
The provisional 2014 Australasian Superbike Championship calendar is as follows:
- Rd1 -- Wakefield Park Raceway, NSW, March 14-16
- Rd2 -- Mallala Raceway, SA, May 16-18
- Rd3 -- Queensland Raceway, Qld, June 27-29
- Rd4 -- Winton Raceway, Vic, August 1-3
- Rd5 -- Wakefield Park Raceway, NSW, September 12-14
- Rd6 -- Sydney Motorsport Park, NSW, November 21-23
