It’s been a while – nearly a decade -- but Yamaha has finally updated its FJR1300A big-bore sports tourer, in the face of increasing opposition from the likes of the Triumph Trophy.
Refreshed bodywork -- the upper cowl is redesigned while the under-cowl has a new shape for increased wind protection – is joined by a Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) and the Yamaha D-Mode system, which offers touring or sports settings.
Traction and cruise control have also joined the fray, and there’s a new instrument display featuring an analogue tacho, digital speedometer and “multi-dot” display. There’s also a new adjustable windscreen, which according to Yamaha moves into position twice as fast and holds its position when the bike is turned off.
The new fork design incorporates an aluminium piston rod and plunger, and has a new spring rate. The rear has new damping and spring rates. Yamaha has maintained five cogs on the 1298cc liquid-cooled in-line four-cylinder, and fuel capacity remains just shy of 25 litres. Colour choice is limited to grey.
The FJR1300A will go on sale in early December, 2012 for around $24,500.
