2013 Street Triple and Street Triple R

Major updates for the naked sports bikes, with 6kg in weight savings over the previous versions and a new low-mounted silencer
Triumph has unveiled a major update to its Street Triple naked sports bike at the Intermot motorcycle show in Cologne, with an all-new chassis leading the charge -- an aluminium beam twin-spar frame meeting a  two-piece high-pressure diecast rear subframe. It’s the first real makeover to the 675cc triple since it was launched in 2007.
Pride of place in the new lightweight chassis is the new low-boy stainless-steel exhaust, which not only provides a sharp new look but it offers a significant contribution to redistributing the centre of gravity. Its optimised mass centralisation has also afforded Triumph’s engineers the opportunity to tweak the geometry, reducing the rake to 24.1 degrees and increasing the trail by 0.5mm to 99.6m – similar moves made on the last update to the bigger Speed Triple.
Wet weight is now a claimed 183kg, a substantial 6kg saving over the outgoing model.
The heart of the Street Triple remains the liquid-cooled, 12-valve, 675cc three-cylinder engine. Combined with the close-ratio six-speed gearbox, the unit delivers 106hp at 11,850rpm and 68Nm of torque.
An engine immobiliser is standard, while further security can be added via an accessory Triumph D lock which can be stored under the seat. The LCD digital instrumentation includes a built-in lap timer, programmable gear change lights, fuel gauge, clock and gear indicator, as well as a large tachometer and digital speedo. The unit is also able to display front and rear tyre pressures when the optional Triumph Tyre Pressure Monitoring System is fitted.
Three metallic colour options are available for the New Street Triple in 2013: Phantom
Black, Crystal White and Caribbean Blue.
STREET TRIPLE R
The 2013 Street Triple R’s 41mm inverted front forks are fully adjustable for preload, rebound and compression damping, while the monoshock is adjustable for preload and rebound damping. Twin 310mm floating front discs and powerful four-piston Nissin radial calipers take care of the braking department.
Altogether the package offers a setup that can be easily configured to suit track or road riding, whilst at the time providing the security of incredible stopping power. Rake and trail are 23.4 degrees and 95.0mm respectively.
Visually, the R model adds a red rear subframe, red pinstripe details to the wheels and a red detailed radiator shroud featuring a dominant R logo.
Three colour options are available for the new Street Triple R in 2013: Phantom Black, Crystal White and Matt Graphite.
Full pricing information will be confirmed in late October 2012, with the first bikes available to test ride in Australian Triumph dealerships from November, 2012.
