2013 Safari adds a servicing option

Servicing and logistics are a huge part of any big off-road race, and in 2013 the Australasian Safari promoter has added a support package option for competitors

The 2013 Australasian Safari will be held in Western Australia from September 20-27, and one of the biggest organisational hurdles will be getting your servicing and logistics arrangements right.  The options for servicing are to register your own service crew, to join a team, or new for 2013 are a couple of support packages. Details of those are as follows:

SAFARI SUPPORT PACKAGE

Inclusions:

  • Fuel -- min 95 octane
  • Transport of bike plus rider from Perth to Geraldton and return
  • Transport of two Dakar-style trunks, two spare wheels, two spare tyres, one tent & sleeping bag, and one large gear bag
  • Assistance with refueling at mid-leg service
  • Access to the ‘Service Plus Bus’ (see below)

Infrastructure provided:

  • Ground sheet
  • Best endeavours to establish the service area with a ground sheet and access to your kit prior to the arrival of the first rider, depending on the location of the mid leg service/refuel

This is no-frills Dakar “malle moto” style of support for the competitor who is on a very tight budget and requires only primary transport and refuel support -- nothing else

  • Extra tyres, mousses, tubes can be pre-ordered and must be pre-paid
  • Oil can be pre-ordered and must be pre-paid

The cost of Safari Support Package is $1800.

SAFARI SUPPORT PLUS

All of the above, plus:

  • Oil
  • Service consumables – nuts and bolts, cable ties, gaffa tape
  • Access to the ‘Service Plus Bus’ (see below)
  • Swag – sleeping bag, mattress and tent all in one

Infrastructure provided:

  • Marquee/quickshade, lighting, ground sheets
  • Generators, compressor
  • Tyre changing equipment
  • Access to tools
  • Set up each day prior to arrival of the rider

This is a package for competitors who are confident about doing their own servicing and don’t mind paying a bit extra for access to full service infrastructure.

The cost of the Safari Support PLUS package is $3000.

 SAFARI SUPPORT 'MATE’S' BUS

Take up one of the Safari’s Support packages and you can still bring a mate. We will provide transport, and they can register as either service or support crew. (The difference is that support crew cannot work on the bike or help at the refuel). Each day the bus that transports the ‘Safari Mates’ will either stop at the mid-leg service, or stop at a spectator point (or both, if time permits).

The cost for a seat on the bus is $450. This does not include the service/support crew registration fee. Please refer to the pre-event guide for information about how to register as service or support crew.

Please note that both the Safari Malle Motos and the Safari Support Plus packages are subject to minimum numbers being reached for them to be viable. Contact the organiser if you are doubt.
