Suzuki’s 2013 model RM-Z450 motocross bike has arrived in Australia, and is retailing for $11,790.
The 450's piston is now some 13 percent lighter thanks to Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis, while the reshaped conrod is lighter too, and Suzuki says this enables improved throttle response and increased low-end to mid-range power.
The 450's transmission has been refined too, with the updates producing a smoother, more precise gear shift, according to Suzuki.
As for the chassis, the RM-Z450 benefits from Showa's Separate Function Fork (SFF), which sees the damping function and spring located in separate fork legs. There’s also preload adjustment, too. The 48mm fork is said to offer improved stability and shock-absorption capability.
There has been a revision to the RM-Z’s frame shape and construction, while the settings for rear suspension have also been revised, to better match the expanded capability of the Showa SFF fork.
Finally, the muffler end caps are now fixed with bolts, not rivets, so the mufflers can be repacked more easily.
Livery is black/yellow, with two-tone radiator shrouds.
Motocross and supercross competitors who campaign a RM-Z450 are eligible to register for Suzuki's Support Rider program, which offers contingency payments on national and state championships.
The Bikesales Network will be riding the 2013 RM-Z450 in early September, so standby for a full report.
