2013 KTM range: First look

First details have been released on KTM's 2013 range of dirt bikes, with its heavily revised motocross models leading the charge

Austrian marque KTM has lifted the lid on its 2013 line-up of dirt bike models, with its new motocross range grabbing the lion's share of the headlines.

While details at this stage are still limited, next year's roll call of machines will include a new 450 SX-F, an updated 350 SX-F, a new engine for the 250 SX-F, a heavy revision of the KTM 85 SX minibike and a number of revisions across the EXC enduro range.

With the 2012-spec enduro models on the receiving end of a hefty update last year, the 2013 model year sees KTM's motocross family in the spotlight, with the new 450 SX-F (pictured) spearheading the updates. Boating a new SOHC, fuel-injected engine, KTM is claiming the 450 SX-F is the most powerful bike in the entire MX1 field and is the result of extensive testing and collaboration between KTM heavyweight Ryan Dungey and Red Bull KTM Team Manager, Roger DeCoster.

The engine's architecture has moved from a bore and stroke of 97mm x 60.8mm to 95mm x 63.4mm, and the machine is now said to be 1.2kg lighter, weighing in at a claimed 106.2kg (dry). The suspension, frame and bodywork have also come in for revision.

KTM's 350 SX-F, meanwhile, features a revised powerplant (pictured), plus an updated chassis and bodywork, while the 250 SX-F has an all-new engine that's said to be lighter and benefits from improved fuel injection.

KTM says its 2013 85 SX minibike also represents a heavy revision, while its enduro line-up benefits from a further round of refinements, after its major overhaul for the current 2012 model year.

Finally, the up-spec 'Six Days' line-up continues, with variants based on the 125 EXC, 250 EXC, 300 EXC, 250 EXC-F, 350 EXC-F, 450 EXC and 500 EXC.
