The 2013 Australasian Safari route has been locked in, with the 100-plus Moto, Auto and Quad competitors set to tackle myriad of terrain – from sandy creeks, river crossings, sand hills to beaches.
“Last year we had the soft dunes, hard dunes, treacherous creek beds, dust and rocky outcrops. Competitors should expect the same this year and more,” said Event Director, Justin Hunt.
The ceremonial start will take place in Perth on September 19, while competitors will spend the first night of competition in the Shire of Northampton. On the second day, they will travel to Kalbarri, which will set the backdrop for legs one and six.
The Safari will then head inland to the Shire of Upper Gascoyne for legs two and three, with a double overnight stop in Gascoyne Junction.
Travelling back to the coast, the Kennedy Ranges will be the backdrop for competitors as they tackle rocky outcrops, sand dunes, red dust, spinifex, wattle and mallee trees – a favourite spot for 4WD enthusiasts.
Located at the mouth of the Gascoyne River, Carnarvon will host Safari for two nights at the end of legs four and five.
The final leg will bring the competitors back to Geraldton and the finish on September 27.
