Husqvarna’s world enduro title leader Matt Phillips will start as favourite to take outright honours in the 2013 Australian Four-Day Enduro (A4DE), which will take place at Harvey (WA) from July 17-20 – although a short prologue has already been held today to determine starting positions for tomorrow.
Phillips (pictured second) currently leads the junior class of the Enduro World Championship by 29pts with just one round remaining – in France on September 7-8. If he wins, he’ll become Australia’s first world champion since Stefan Merriman won the fourth of his world titles in 2004. Victorian Shane Watts was also a world title winner in 1997.
“I am going in with the intention to win the 2013 A4DE for Husqvarna,” said Phillips. “With that in mind it's all about finishing healthy for me so I can continue my world championship pursuit to become the next Australian enduro world champion. I'm really excited to race in WA and look forward to working with the team.”
The A4DE field again has exceptional depth, and includes the 2012 A4DE champion Daniel Milner (Yamaha, pictured first), Merriman (Yamaha), the in-for Josh Green (Yamaha), Chris Hollis (KTM), Glenn Kearney (Husqvarna), and Ben Grabham (KTM). Toby Price, second in last year’s A4DE, is out of the event with injury.
There will also be individual classes for Veteran, Masters and Women, and there a number of teams events, including an Oceania Challenge.
Day one of the A4DE will be held over 246.5km, followed by 254km and 233km on days two and three. The final day is a traditional motocross test.
