Yamaha’s 2012 model YZ250F is now on sale for $10,999, and the company has surprised by continuing to shun fuel injection in favour of a carburetor.
And the spin has already begun, with Yamaha stating that one of the main reasons it stuck with a carburetor was to retain the YZ250F’s status as “the lightest bike in the 250cc class”.
Anyway, the carburetor size has been beefed up to 39mm in 2012, and there’s also a new counterbalancer, new conrod, low-friction piston rings and a new piston.
There’s also amended CDI mapping, with Yamaha wrapping up all these enhancements into what it claims is more power in the 8000-12,000rpm range.
The frame is now wider around the swingarm pivot area, and the fuel tank rail features increased rigidity.
There are new front KYB suspension components, revised rear shock internals and more rigidity in the swingarm axle block area.
Fork offset has been changed from 25mm to 22mm to accommodate the new frame design, which also increase trail for more stability.
$10,999 will get you the Yamaha Blur livery, with another $100 for the Special Edition White.
