Using a generous helping of DNA from its brooding, High-Ball custom cruiser, Victory Motorcycles has announced an extension to its ‘bad ass’ family with the Hard-Ball.
The newcomer, unveiled at the Long Beach International Show just a few days ago, works on the same long and low principle as the High-Ball, and is also powered by the Freedom 106 (1731cc) V-twin, which certainly delivers an energetic ride in the HIgh-Ball – standby for a Bikesales Network review on that surprise packet.
The adjustable ape hangers remain a vital part of the landscape, as do the spoke wheels and chunky tyres.
But the Hard-Ball does have a bigger front wheel – up to 18 inches from 16. Other changes include a longer wheelbase on the Hard-Ball (about 22mm), a slightly larger front fender, floor boards, an extra 5.3 litres of fuel capacity, a taller seat, slight geometry changes, and a second front disc complete with ABS.
But it’s the addition of lockable saddlebags on the Hard-Ball that’s the major difference between the two. So there’s your tourer right there – or is it a cruiser... Victory says it can be whatever we want it to be – bagger, tourer or cruiser.
The Hard-Ball is, unsurprisingly, black, but there are also red pinstripes “so you can find your bike in the dark of night”.
The Hard-Ball will go on sale in 2012, with price to still be announced.
