Moto Guzzi is determined not to get left behind in the adventure bike arena, announcing a number of updates to its 2012 model Stelvio NTX 8V, which will retail for $22,990 when it goes on sale in September, 2011.
The top fairing, windshield and the half-fairing (with integrated turn indicators) are all brand new, designed to give the front-end a more aggressive look – and another layer of aerodynamic protection.
Still at the pointy end, the fuel tank now a holds a voluminous 32 litres, which is just one less than its main competition – the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure.
As for the eight-valve Euro 3-spec engine, Moto Guzzi – a part of the giant Piaggio conglomerate – has massaged the ECU, ignition and cooling, as well as fitting a new exhaust. The company claims improved throttle response and a more full-bodied low to mid-range power delivery. There’s also traction control, which can be deactivated just like the ABS.
Moto Guzzi claims 105hp at 7250rpm and 113Nm at 5800rpm.
The NTX still has its full coat of armour, including an oil sump guard, engine guard, cylinder guard, hand guards and an extra large windshield with additional wind deflectors.
There’s a new upper twin-spar frame, made of high-strength steel, with 2.5mm thick directional tubes, where the engine is anchored through six connecting points.
The rake is now 27 degrees and there’s 125mm of trail, matched to a 1535mm wheelbase.
The front end sports a new upside-down 45mm Marzocchi fork with 170mm of travel, with the rear a Sachs shock with a 155mm stroke.
Meanwhile, the latest version of the more road-going Stelvio 1200 8V ABS, featuring alloy wheels and unique copper colour scheme, will arrive in February, 2012 with a price of $19,990.
