KTM is introducing a brand new enduro bike in 2012, but one that is pitched towards off-road fun rather than winning races.
It’s called the Freeride 350, and from the photos we’ve seen it appears to have the rolling chassis of the Freeride electric bike, but is powered by a traditional combustion engine.
Weight is only 98kg, which is a nice prospect, but that’s tempered by the fuel-injected single-cylinder engine only producing a modest 24hp. So the inference is clear that this one is being positioned towards off-road novices with its “playful and feather light” features.
The Freeride 350 has a composite aluminium and steel frame, a WP fork, monoshock, dual sport-like tyres, an aluminium swingarm, wave discs, dual-piston caliper on the front, and hydraulic clutch. It’s also electric start.
The Freeride 350 will be formally introduced at the EICMA Motorcycle Fair in Milan in November, 2011.
Will the Freeride 350 make it to Australia? According to the company’s marketing coordinator Greg Chambers, a decision still hasn’t been made.
“At this point in time we’re unsure whether the Freeride 350 -- or Freeride E -- models will make it to Australia,” said Chambers. “They’re really exciting models and they break new ground for KTM but we just need to do some further research to determine their viability in the Australian market.
“We should know more after EICMA where the models will be launched internationally.”
